A special Royal Charity Gala concert took place at the Lyceum Theatre on June 8th, 1998 in the presence of the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh which was described as a star-studded musical performance. The concert was designed to raise funds for the Royal National Institute of the Blind and the Combined Theatrical Charities and honored theatre producer Cameron Mackintosh for his 30 creative years in show-biz. Featuring a glittering array of internationally acclaimed artists including Julie Andrews, Jonathan Pryce, Bernadette Peters, Lea Salonga, Colm Wilkinson, Judi Dench, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Stephen Sondheim.....over 200 performers. The incomparable concert includes spectacularly staged scenes from some of the best-loved musicals of the twentieth century such as "LES MISERABLES", "CATS", "MISS SAIGON", "OLIVER!", "MY FAIR LADY", "OKLAHOMA!", "THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA" and many others. Doubtlessly, this is the best musical extravaganza in the world.
